[Brigham Young]
J. H. Smith asked the meaning of the Rule in relation to spirit and meaning of the word of wisdom. B. Y. said Tea is not mentioned. Coffee is not mentioned. It is hot drinks if we are in the habit of eating or drinking any thing that is injurious to the human system we must leave it off'"in eating meat we should [see] Swine flesh as not healthy. If we would act in wisdom we would refrain from eating such meat. I recommend Butter, milk, vegetables, Fruits'"Fish'"this country is very well adapted to raising fish. There is no better fish in the world that trout, also eggs, fowls'"and such. Beef that is fattened on the mountain grass'"mutton'"and wild game. In a family one child needs more sleep than another. B. Franklin said 6 hours sleep is enough, this is not enough for some. Wisdom says give the system that amount that it needs'"the word of wisdom teaches us [to] adopt in our present lives that that will be for our best good. Eat light not too much, it[s] not as much what you eat as it is the quantity, do not over load the stomach'"observe the word of the Lord. Do not eat much meat in hot weather, do not kill the Rabbits and throw the fish out onto the land. -- Provo, Utah
