[Seymour B. Young]
Apostle B[righam] Young [Jr.] spoke in the large tabernacle on Sunday PM and advised the young men of Israel not to desire to enlist for the purpose of shedding the blood of their fellowmen. the two morning papers of today called him a coward, a traitor and &c, and even some of his presiding brethren have sensured him for making these remarks but I feel that they are exactly in keeping with the advi[c]e of President Brigham Young to us when we enlisted in the war of the rebellion in 1862. To not desire to shed blood and to keep from doing so for when our temples were completed he wanted the brethren to be able to go into those holy houses and minister for the dead and living and that they could not do this if their hands were stained with the blood of their fellowmen.
