President Grant said he hoped the brethren would be able to agree upon a successor to Elder Hyrum G. Smith, deceased, as presiding Patriarch to the Church, so that he might be installed at the April conference. He asked the Council of the Twelve to give the matter careful and prayerful consideration and submit a recommendation to him as to their choice for this position.
