[Apostle Brigham Young Jr. Diary] ... The day is gloomy and the outlook for statehood is gloomy indeed. Suing for church property keeps the Marshall busy, I feel opposed to allowing these scoundrels to abuse us as they please I believe a little wholesome resistance to unwarranted proceedings on the part of the opposition would make these blatant persecutors think well before they assalted[?] us once. Meeting [of the Twelve] closed without the council coming to definite conclusion. A great deal of useless talk was indulged in by the younger and inexperienced members. It does seem the less we know the more we have to say.
