President Dallin H. Oaks has informed me that advice relative to counseling young men and women about temple endowments is being given by either faculty and/or Church administrators which is not in agreement with Church policies. It seems that some BYU young women are being encouraged to receive their temple endowment any time after age 19. This counsel is opposed to the Church policy which is to encourage young women to wait until the time near their marriage or prior to receiving mission calls. I have been informed by the Council of the Twelve office that young men, many of whom are ordained elders at the age of 18, should not be encouraged nor allowed to go to the temple for their endowments.
