165 years ago today - Aug 14, 1847. Saturday.

[William Clayton Journal] Started at 20 minutes to 9 in company with a number of others for the Salt Lake. We arrived at 3 o'clock and estimated the distance 22 miles. We all bathed in it and found the reports of those who had previously bathed in no ways exaggerated. We returned back to the river where we arrived at 11 o'clock at the beginning of a light thunder shower. There is no pure fresh water between the river and the Lake.
