At the Presidents Office I had a long talk with Brother Andrew Burt on city matters relative to our policy respecting the treatment of gamblers, prostitutes and liquor dealers. He advocates a change of policy and more rigor. I sincerely concur. P.M. at council in the E[ndowment]. H[ouse]. I brought up marshal Burt's suggestion, but Brother [John] Taylor seemed unconcerned and uninterested so the matter dropped. I also recalled the subject of setting apart the officers of the Y[oung] M[ens] M[utual] I[mprovement] A[ssociation]. Brother Taylor objected to it so the matter dropped.
