[Leonard Arrington]
[Brother Hartley reported that Legrand Richards said]: "Well, I know one that you probably won't want in your history. President Grant was asked if Rudger Clawson would be the next president of the Church-at the time he was president of the Quorum of the Twelve." President Grant said, "If the Lord wants Brother Clawson to be president of the Church, then it's goodbye Heber." Then he paused, and paused a little longer and then said, "I don't think the Lord wants Rudger Clawson [[Clawson preceded Grant in death by two years, so that George Albert Smith became president in 1945.]] to be president of the Church." LeGrand Richards said, "Now that wouldn't go into a biography of President Grant, would it?"
