[Heber J. Grant]
My name stands as Editor [of the Improvement Era], but to tell you the truth, I feel almost ashamed to have my name as editor and not to contribute anything to the magazine. I literally dread writing as some people dread public speaking. ...

The more I think of the Improvement Era, the more I am convinced that the Presidency of the Church ought to hold a meeting with the Superintendency of the Young Men's Mutual and the Presidency of the Young Women's at least once a week, to discuss briefly matters for the improvement of our magazines and the class of articles that ought to appear in it. I am a thorough convert to the idea that we ought to quit having advertisements scattered through the book; it is a shame to have them included in the bound volume. And I am not sure but that we ought to reduce the size of it so it would at least be no larger than Harper's and other monthly magazines.
