Brigham Young writes in a letter: "The doctrine of adoption, the Patriarchal order, has not been taught of late, but will be attended to in its season as soon as we have another Temple built to the most High. You belong to the Kingdom of God, but may make your own choice, to whom you will be adopted, and when you have made this choice you may report it that it may be put on record, and in the event of death; because of this record the adoption would be attended to for the dead in the proper time and place. This is for the purpose of having an unbroken Chain of Priesthood from the present time back through Joseph, the apostles to the Jesus - -Jesus-even back to Adam."
