[George Q.] Cannon desired the mind of the Council as to the course he should pursue. The sentiment expressed was that the Saints never expected to be so mixed up with the gentiles as circumstances had led them into, but that the United Order would be established and our financial affairs regulated thereby; also that success could not be expected until that system should prevail among the Saints. However, it was conceded that under the present laws of the land, it would not be possible to establish that order, but that a change might come when it would be practicable. The result of the conversation was, that the sense of the meeting was that Pres. Cannon should accept the invitation to meet the President of the Chamber of Commerce, and do what he could in the direction indicated.
