[Moses Thatcher to Heber J. Grant]
Dear Brother Grant,

... Just previous to the time when George Q. could not 'remember whether he said it or not' would have been a more favorable time to act than the present. We live in an age when fixing, scheming and wire working often overreach even moral courage of the 'first water.' However I will see what can be done. And whether George's statement be confirmed or otherwise, it is true all the same And if it only leads to a full ventilation and reopening of other matters of vital interest to God's people, then shall I feel grateful.

This issue should surely come, perhaps the sooner the better. We can never claim the blessings of heaven, the approval of God or the companionship of the Holy Ghost while things remain in our Quorum as they are: for while the head is feverish the whole body must be sick. We cannot expect union in the body where the head is divided; nor confidence among the people where it does not exist among their leaders. 'A house divided against itself cannot stand.'

...With love to the brethren Yourself included I remain, Your brother in the Covenant, Moses Thatcher
