The 10 o'clock meeting of the First Presidency and Apostles was held this morning at the temple.
Present: Pres[iden]ts. [Joseph F.] Smith, [John R.] Winder, [Anthon H.] Lund and [Francis M.] Lyman, Elders John Henry Smith, Heber J. Grant, Rudger Clawson, Hyrum M. Smith, George Albert Smith, George F. Richards, Orson F. Whitney, David O. McKay and the Patriarch. ...
Brother McKay informed the council that leading educators of the country were beginning to express themselves in favor of introducing the reading of the Bible into our public schools; and that this matter had received the attention of the Sunday School Union Board, who were ready to advocate it; but before taking any steps in this direction, the Board wished to know the mind of the Council of First Presidency and Apostles regarding this matter.
It was the sense of the Council, on motion of Brother Clawson, seconded by Brother Whitney, that the Sunday School Union carry out its wishes and intentions by making a suitable petition to the Legislature. ...
