Prest. A. H. Lund and I looked through the Temple and talked with several employes. We learned that several Keys to the doors are out and that two had been lost. (1)

In san Francisco, pro-Mormon Republicans (including "permanent" national chair of Republican Party's national convention) tell presidents Woodruff and Cannon that LDS church's only hope is to make "some announcement concerning polygamy and the laying of it aside." Republican leaders then promise to promote Utah's statehood in expectation that church will work to have majority of Mormons vote Republican. (2)

[Diary of Apostle John Henry Smith] Salt Lake City
Directors of the Home Fire Insurance Co. met at 4 p.m. The Y.M.M.I.A. board met at 5 p.m. I had dinner at my sister Clarissa Williams with Three of my father's wives and both of my [wives].
In the evening I listened to speaches in regard to Republican policy by Mrs. J. Ellen Foster, Mr. Hallowell and U.S. Senator Fairbanks. (1)
