The Prophet Joseph administered to us our first ordinances of endowment, and gave us instructions on the Priesthood and the new and everlasting covenant." Thus, Joseph Smith re-performed the endowment ceremony he had originally given these same men a year ago (which inaccurately omitted William Law). Smith reconferred the endowment for two reasons. First, to prepare for the next day's sealing of marriages for time and eternity, which he explained to the men in attendance. Second, because the Presiding Patriarch had stopped his opposition to polygamous marriages .
