125 years ago today - May 23, 1893 (Tuesday)

The Salt Lake Temple was opened for ordinance work, under the immediate direction of the First Presidencyâ€"Wilford Woodruff, George Q. Cannon and Joseph F. Smith. The following were the officers; Lorenzo Show, president; John R. Winder, first assistant; Adolph Madson, second assistant; John Nicolson, chief recorder; Joseph H. Dean, janitor; William H. Salmon, doorkeeper, Zina D.H. Young, president of sisters' department, with Bathsheba W. Smith and Minnie J. Snow, her assistants.
