[Heber J. Grant] Had a nice long visit with Brother Alonzo A. Hinckley and asked him if he had had any impressions as to the appointing of a [the presiding] patriarch. He said his impression is that nothing should be done until I feel perfectly free to nominate the patriarch. He felt that if the Lord wanted Hyrum G.'s son he would manifest it to me, and he felt sure that if the Lord did manifest to me the name Willard R. Smith or Hyrum G. Smith's son, the brethren would unanimously accept my nomination. I told him they had always assured me of that but that up to date I had no impression favoring Hyrum G.'s boy.
