[W]e do not wish to interfere with the status of the Relief Society affecting its corporate life or its affiliation with the National Council for Women, and therefore suggest that the society remain as it is for the present at least.
But ... the affiliation of the Relief Society with the national organization must be regarded merely as a passing incident in the life of the society, an incident which may be terminated at any time without affecting in any way the society itself; and that the society must be regarded as paramount in import to everything else now connected with it ...

[Patriarchal Blessing] William Jackson. (Given by John Smith.)
... The destroyer shall march through the earth in thy day and cut down thousands on thy right hand and on thy left and thy heart shall be pained because of it and thou shalt be able to save many of their children and bring them to Zion but the destroyer shall not come nigh thee. The angel of the Lord shall defend thee. Thou shalt have the ministering of angels and converse with them face to face as a man converseth with a friend. Thou shall assist them in gathering and bringing those children to Zion. Thou shalt have power to rebuke the waves of the sea and all the devouring elements. Thou shalt waft thyself from place to place on the wings of the wind to accomplish thy mission speedily. Thou shalt not be confined in prison for a long time for the angel of the Lord shall deliver thee. ...

[Joseph Smith] Emma, having visited Joseph twice since his imprisonment, leaves Missouri with her children, with the help of Stephen Markham. They walk 150 miles across Missouri to the east toward Illinois. When Emma crosses the frozen Mississippi on Feb. 15, she has her four small children with her and two cotton bags full of Joseph's most sacred papers hidden under her full skirts (including his inspired revision of the Bible). She crosses the river and reaches Quincy, Illinois, on the other shore, where she stays until Joseph is freed from prison.

[Greene M. Evan] ... [William Smith] spake on the subject of the order of Gods house or the church of Christ and also spake in the gift of tounges* and two men arose and began to make some disturbance in the assembly in talking in the most abusive maner* to Brother Wm and disturbed us considerable . . But through the grace of God we were able to overcome the devil and they at last left the house in peace and we had a verry good meeting and the Lord blest us much . .

First Counselor J. Reuben Clark recommends anti-semitic PROTOCOLS OF THE ELDERS OF ZION to Ernest L. Wilkinson, soon to be president of Brigham Young University. In Dec. 1957 Clark makes similar recommendation to Apostle Ezra Taft Benson, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. This may be reason Benson organizes secret surveillance of employees (especially Jews) in U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In an interview with the NEW YORK HERALD, President George Q. Cannon explains if a man's wife was barren, he might "go to Canada and marry another wife. He would not be violating our laws, and would not be in danger of prosecution unless the first wife should follow him there from Utah and prefer a charge of bigamy against him. He might go to Mexico and have a religious ceremony uniting him to another that would not violate our law." This is the first public admission that the Manifesto is not strictly adhered to.

[Nauvoo Temple] Joseph Smith and William Weeks met to discuss the Temple's construction during the coming summer. The Prophet desired "round windows in the broad side of the building." Weeks said that such circular windows "were a violation of all known rules of architecture." The Prophet responded, that he would have circular windows even if the building had to be ten feet higher, and then he said, "I wish you to carry out my designs. I have seen in vision the splendid appearance of that building illuminated, and will have it built according to the pattern shown me."

[Apostle Heber J. Grant Diary] I learned ... that an effort was being made to have the U.S. Senatorship offered to [apostle] Moses Thatcher. He had signed a request to Moses asking him to enter the race, but he had done so with the understanding that Moses would refuse to accept and that I approved of the proposition, reserving the right to withdraw his name. I assured him I was not favorable to any such a plan as it was not sincere, and I knew Moses could not get 32 votes if it was not understood that he would decline[.] I do not like political trades, especially when they are not sincere...

[Benjamin Tolman] [Received] a fearful handling from President [Rudger] Clawson and Adolph Madsen showing no pity but rakeing me quite smartly, I took it as best I could. Tho[ma]s Wheatly Jr was ap[p]ointed to take charge of the ward, and a number of teachers were put before the people. There was a manifest feeling not to sustain them. I then said I would be found sustaining those over me but thought I should have a hearing.

Lucy Mack Smith writes to Orson Pratt concerning her manuscript of the early history of Joseph Smith: "I have studied over the matter and have finally concluded that you may make use of [the manuscript] in any way you see proper." The permission was, evidently, retroactive since Pratt had published the book the previous year.
