Josiah Quincy, who in 1845, would become Boston's mayor, visited the Prophet in 1844. To test Joseph's powers, Quincy asked Joseph to name the successful candidate in the approaching presidential election. Joseph replied, "Well I will prophesy that John Tyler will not be the next President, for some things are possible and some things are probable; but Tyler's election is neither the one or the other!" (Stories About Joseph Smith the Prophet, p. 123, also Milton R. Hunter, Pearl of Great Price Commentary, p. 17)
Tyler, the tenth President of the United States (from 1841-1845), was not re-elected.
