D. D. Barnard gave "An Introductory Address Delivered Before The Young Men's Association for Mutual Improvement" of the City of Albany, stating "The laws of nature were made to be obeyed, and not to be violated. The slightest disobedience, the most inconsiderable departure from them, is sure to be visited with an appropriate penalty; and, if it were not so, these laws would cease to be inflexible, which can never happen while the world stands." [see D&C 130:20-21 (1843)]
