Academy [in Provo] had been left too much with the Presidents of those institutions, and this had resulted in extravagance. He feared also that the spirit of rivalry between the two schools was indulged in to the detriment of the students and at a sacrifice of their faith. This was contrary to the spirit of the deed of trust given to those institutions. ...
