[Heber J. Grant]
I went upstairs in the morning to have a talk with Golden Kimball but he had not arrived. Had a little chat with Brother Kimball's brothers inasmuch as he was not there'Joseph Kimball and Albert Kimball'and they both felt it would be an absolute injustice to me to publish Golden's corrected speech, that it would put me in a very wrong attitude if I did not publish his speech in full just as he delivered it.

At 3:30 we had a meeting which lasted until nearly six o'clock with the manager and editor of the News, B.F. Grant and Joseph J. Cannon. We discussed the knowledge they have regarding crookedness in the police department of the city. They have a lot of evidence against the Chief himself for taking money from criminals and keeping it, etc., etc. The general consensus of opinion was that the evidence would not be sufficient to convict and for the present at least it would not be wise for the Deseret News to undertake to expose the crookedness.
