John Henry Smith presented the matter of the order in which Patriarchs of the Church should be presented. He stated it had been the custom formerly to present the name of the Patriarch after the Presidency and before the twelve and he read from the Doc[trine]. and Covenants Sec[tion]. 124. He spoke of the delicacy of this subject ... This question had caused him a degree of anxiety. The question revolved itself to this: Can anyone come between the Presidency and Apostles, either in being presented or in any other way? Shall we now return to the first order of presenting the Patriarch's name next to the presidency or shall we continue to follow the prescedent set by the last four Presidents of the Church? [Note: The apostles then offered their views on the subject, and Brigham Young Jr., quorum president, concluded that the question should be decided by Joseph F. Smith.]
