[Franklin D. Richards]
Regarding a statement of the daughter of Vinson Knight and Martha McBride Knight: "Her mother was sealed to the Prophet Joseph. Her father [Vinson Knight] received another wife--widow Merrick whose husband was martyred at Haun's Mill." An affidavit by Martha McBride's made no mention of Vinson, nor referred to his death (31 July 1842) but stated only that her marriage to Joseph Smith occurred in "the summer of the year 1842." [Quinn regards this imprecise date as an intentional effort to obscure the fact that she married Joseph Smith before her husband died.]
