[Heber J. Grant / Council of Fifty meeting]
Prest Cannon stated that it would take quite an amount of money for us to get into the Union [IE Statehood for Utah]. Said we were not going to purchase our way in, but that there would be large sums of money needed to spend in a legitimate way.... Some said we would need $1,000,000. What on earth we need of so much unless we are going to purchase our way into the Union is something I can't understand.
