BYU's president writes: "Frankly, if they [general authorities] concerned themselves 1/100th as much with teachers as they do with the basketball coach, I would feel much better." Stan Watts is the NCAA Basketball Coach of the Year (1957, 1972) and inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and into Helms Hall of Fame (1972). Lavell Edwards is the NCAA Football Coach of the Year (1984). Beyond BYU, Dick Motta is the National Basketball Association's Coach of the Year (1971), and Tom Chambers is the NBA's All-Star MVP in 1987.
