First Presidency letter urging that all departing missionaries receive the Salk vaccination against polio, which contributes to more a rapid decline of this disease in Mormon culture than in the U.S. generally. Its recent victims include the brother of Seventy's president Bruce R. McConkie and the son of Apostle Spencer W. Kimball.
