Joseph Smith receives a revelation (D&C 81) confirming Jesse Gause's role as a counselor to Joseph Smith "unto whom I have given the keys of the Kingdom." Joseph retains his sole role in the presidency of the Church while Jesse Gause and Sidney Rigdon are both made counselors to the president but not part of a "presidency."
