[J. Reuben Clark]
Pres. Abbott of Reno Stake called about advancing in the priesthood to Elder, a young man, converted about two years ago, who works in one of the gambling houses as a dealer; he is entirely worthy so far as his life is concerned, but the Council wondered about his work prohibiting the advancement. The Melchizedek Priesthood have voted for him, but there seems to be some kind of feeling in the High Council. Pres. Clark said a case came up a few weeks ago about a man working for a Coca Cola firm and they decided that would not disqualify him from being a Temple worker. Bro. Abbott said he was trying to find other employment, but has not been able to at present time. Pres. Clark said it seemed to him that if he is living a proper life and particularly if he is hunting other employment, he thought that there would be no reason why they should not advance him, he being thoroughly converted.
