Joseph attends a meeting of the Iowa high council, across the river from Nauvoo. He encourages them to stop trying to live the law of consecration. In Herefordshire, England, John Benbow, his wife, and four others are the first of the United Brethren to be baptized, having been converted by Wilford Woodruff. Within the next five weeks, Woodruff converts 158 people, including 48 lay preachers. By the time he completes his mission in southern England, he will have been responsible for more than 1800 baptisms.
