[Heber J. Grant] I know as I know that I live that statements that Brigham Young had men killed so that he could get their money is one of the vilest and most wicked lies ever perpetrated. There is not a Latter-day Saint living but what believes that the murderer has not eternal life, and to hire somebody to murder is just as bad as committing murder yourself. Brigham Young was a man of God, whom I knew from the time I was a little child. I attended family prayers in his home, as I lived just across the street. One of his boys was my nearest and dearest friend. When listening to Brigham Young pray, I, as a little child, have actually opened my eyes and turned around to see if the Lord were not standing there'it seemed like he was talking to Him. The reputation of the Savior was so bad they crucified him. Our reputation has not been quite that bad, because some of us are still alive, but the character of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and every man that has presided over the Church have been above reproach, and I know it.
