Leonora Cannon Taylor wrote a brief "diary"-memoir concerning the death of her daughter Agnes in 1843: Â"1st of May [--] cut my finger with Glass [--] it got very bad [--] my dear Child took sick, my sweet baby died on the 9th of Sep [1843,] buried on the 10th and [on] the 14th I had the middle finger of my left hand taken of[f, i.e., amputated], and buried with my Baby, [--] I had many tryals about this time but I am yet alive.Â"
