[William Clayton Journal] I had some talk with Lydia. She seems to receive it [Joseph Smith's proposal] kindly but says she has promised her mother not to marry while her mother lives and she thinks she won't. [Clayton orginally wanted to marry Lydia, but Joseph Smith had a revelation that a man should not marry more than two sisters. Clayton agreed to let Smith marry her instead, but here, Lydia turns down the proposal]
