[Joseph Smith] A "Notice of Expulsion" appears in the Lee County Democrat at Ford Madison, Wis., announcing a meeting that was held in Hancock County in which the citizens "declared the Mormons shall either peaceably leave the state or they will forcibly be driven away. It is said that the notices to that effect have been posted in public places in the county." (PHistory of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7 volumes) 316.)
