.... having prefered a charge against Elder Almon Babbit[t] for traducing my cha racter, he was this morning called before the High Council, and I atten ded, with my witnesses, and subst antiated my charge against him and he in part acknowledged his fault, but not satisfactory to the council, and after parleying with him a long time, and granting him every indulgence, that righeousness require the council adjourned, without obta ining a full confession from him- [[JS asked for an investigation "that my character and influence may be preserved as far as it can in righteousness." Babbitt had been complaining that JS "got mad" after losing an argument at the debating school. Five days later, Babbitt gave a full confession and was restored to fellowship.]]
