Elder John Taylor was called upon by President Brigham Young to present the names of the several Quorums before the Conference October 7 1861, for their acknowledgement and approval. I presenting the names of the Twelve Apostles Elder Taylor called the name of Elder Wilford Woodruff before his own, upon which President Young directed the Clerk, J. V. Long, to place Brother Taylor's name above Brother Woodruff's as Elder Taylor was ordained four or five months before Elder Woodruff. It was suggested to the President that Elders Woodruff, Taylor, and Richards were called by revelation at the same time and their places had been arranged from the date of the calling according to age instead of the date of ordination. President Young said the calling was one thing and the ordination another, the arrangement should be made in accordance with the date of ordination. he spoke of it now because the time would come when there would be a dispute (might rise) about it and those who understood matters were gone. According to this the Quorum in 1841 should have been arranged John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, George A. Smith and Willard Richards. -- SLC Bowery
