Presidents [Lorenzo] Snow and [Joseph F.] Smith were at the office. The Trustee-in-trust appropriated $102.25 towards assisting Marcus Lowell and a Mrs. Mathews and son to Honolulu [Hawaii]. Mr. Lowell has been experimenting on some of the natives of the Hawaiian Islands who are located at Iosepa Colony, in Tooele county [Utah] and are afflicted with the leprosy. His experiments were unsuccessful, and being without means the Church assisted him to this amount in order that he might go to Hawaii where he expects to benefit the lepers of the Islands. It was decided by the brethren today, that the Pearl of Great Price should be printed as arranged into chapters and paragraphs by Dr. James E. Talmage.
