The earliest description of the new church is in German by Rev. Diedrich Willers of Fayette, New York. He writes that "Mormonites" call themselves Die wahre Nachfolger Christi ("the True Disciples of Christ"). Concerning six Book of Mormon witnesses who had been his parishioners, Willers writes that the Whitmers "even believe in witches. Hiram Page is likewise full of superstition."
