[James E. Talmage]
In his journal Talmage writes the following comments regarding the previous day's elections:

The result of the election is known and the Liberals have succeed in stealing their way into power. This city, the central of the Saints, the seat of the First Presidency of the Church is now in the hands of the enemy. The Lord's will be done. He doubtless has His reasons for what is. Perhaps this will teach us humility, and liberality. As a people, we are not entirely free from bigotry or intolerance. If we are made better by the experience, then all is indeed well with us.
