The general conference was commenced in Salt Lake City. It was continued three days. For the first time in Utah, a full quorum of the Twelve Apostles was present at conference. A number of missionaries were called to strengthen the southern settlements. On the 6th Geo. A. Smith was chosen as First Counselor to Pres. Brigham Young, in place of the late Heber C. Kimball, and Brigham Young, jun., was called to fill the vacancy caused thereby in the Council of Twelve Apostles.
