Utah Mormons overwhelmingly vote for Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt as the U.S. president and for all other New Deal candidates. Defeated after nearly thirty years in the U.S. Senate, Apostle Reed Smoot is resentful that Heber J. Grant decided not to ask Mormons at the October conference to re-elect him. He never forgives Democratic counselor Anthony W. Ivins for persuading Grant against an official endorsement.
