[Apostle Heber J. Grant Diary] Mother called this morning and we had a long talk. I learned that it was the opinion of a great many of the latterday saints that I was filled with pride and that there was nothing in this lie that I cared about so much as I did about making money. It was the opinion of some that the Lord should remove me out of my place as I was so worldly minded and so full of pride. I had no respect for the poor among the people. I regret that any of the saints should have any such an opinion of my as I do not have the feelings that are charged to my account. I have made many thousands of dollars since I was married but I have invested largely in businesses that have not paid, and the reason for the investments was that I desired to aid in establishing enterprises that I considered would be in the interests of the people
