They travel to Norton, Ohio. Elders Sidney Rigdon, Oliver Cowdery, and Zebedee Coltrin give Joseph a blessing. Those present then lay their hands upon the head of Sidney and "confirm upon him the blessings of wisdom and knowledge to preside over the Church in [Joseph's] absence."
