I only understood he purposed to do so conditioned I refused to state what my family relations consisted of [IE Plural marriage].
...I ate a dish of oysters with Richards and at his expense drank a cocktail with Van Cott. They with Senator [Reed] Smoot expressed themselves satisfied with my testimony which I did not as I felt like a donkey that had its ears cutt [sic] off.
