A gala dinner party is held at the grand opening of the Nauvoo Mansion. One hundred couples attend. The guests unanimously approve a series of resolutions made at the party, including tributes to "General Joseph Smith, whether we view him as a Prophet at the head of the Church, a General at the head of the Legion, a Mayor at the head of the City Council, or as a landlord at the head of his table, if he has equals, he has no superiors." Toasts are also made to the 15,000 citizens of Nauvoo, the Nauvoo Legion, the Nauvoo Charter, and Gov. Thomas Ford. (History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7 volumes) 6:42-43.)
