This meeting was convened by request of Prest. B. Young for the purpose of getting our Brethren who were Merchants to enter into some arrangements to lower the present high prices of goods, and by combination to drive from our midst all foreign merchants. ... Many explanations were made by the Brethren present relative to their manner of doing business showing from figures that their profits were not so large now as they were when goods were sold at much lower figures. The President made many good suggestions, and give [gave] good counsel to the merchants said they should work with him to benefit and upbuild the Kingdom, and not forget their God and their religion in trying to get rich, for if they did they would go the way that some had already gone. ...
