Bro. [Francis M.] Lyman stated that he met with the First Council of Seventy last week, and it was there told him that some of the feeble Seventies objected to the request made of them to go into the High Priests' quorum, they entertaining the idea that it was no compliment to be relegated (as they termed it) to the High Priests quorum. The sense of the meeting was that such brethren should not be required to become High Priests against their will. Bro. Lyman stated that it was the practice of the Seventies to drum up young men and ordain them Seventies. Prest. [George Q.] Cannon expressed his objections to young men being ordained Seventies unless they were about to go on missions. And on motion of Prest. Cannon, Prest. [Lorenzo] Snow was delegated to invite the First Seven Presidents of Seventies to meet with the apostles, and to convey to them the idea expressed by President Cannon. Carried.
