105 years ago today - Oct 1, 1912

(in Oct.) Joseph F. Smith publishes an editorial in the Improvement Era favoring the election of Republican William H. Taft as U.S. president. When criticized by Democratic Mormons, Smith replies he is only exercising his rights as a private citizen. Utah's vote goes for Taft, but the nation elects Democrat Woodrow Wilson.
