[Heber J. Grant, Letter to wife Lucy Grant]
Answering your question as to whether our Church now allows plural marriages I will say No. If it did I would get another wife and get her as soon as I possibly could. Let those laugh as they please about this matter, but I am thankful that you have learned that plural marriage is a law of God and the proper way for men and women to live, and some time the Lord may allow men to have more wives... We cannot always tell everything, and you must not let a thing of this kind try your faith. ... Pres[iden]t. [Lorenzo] Snow did stop plural marriage as near as I could find out, or I think I should have had some words of affection to say to the lady who is with you [i.e., missionary companion, Fanny Woolley]. I had made up my mind to give her a chance to say yes or no, but Pres[iden]t Snow was so positive that there was no chance for me even if I went to Mexico or was to marry a girl and leave her in Mexico that I dropped the matter. ...
