[Joseph F. Smith] ... The rest of the time was used in discussing the propriety of organizing the First Presidency. The council are not unanimous. Did not conclude. ... The Twelve met at 6 p.m. in the Endowment House when the motion of C[harles]. C. Rich and seconded by O[rson]. Pratt that we organize the council of the First Presidency was put and carried. Then on motion of W[ilford]. Woodruff, John Taylor was chosen president. He then chose G[eorge]. Q. Cannon and J[oseph]. F. S[mith]. as counsellors.
